Tyson & Murphy Associates
David Tyson and Ellen Murphy are husband and wife licensed clinical social workers, who work independently as private practice clinicians and often together presenting educational seminars. We each provide experienced, professional help for individual adults, adolescents, couples, families and groups. Ellen sees clients in Virginia. David is licensed in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.
At some point in our lives we all find ourselves stuck, fearful, overwhelmed or perhaps uncertain how to resolve issues such as grief, loss, anger, financial hardship, and relationship problems. Acute and/or cumulative stresses may leave us wanting to move forward, beyond old patterns of behaving or thinking. Maybe you have elicited resources that have not worked or the issue is beyond the scope of those currently assisting you. Perhaps you have decided it may be beneficial to seek professional help.
We help clients improve personal and interpersonal awareness, a healthy sense of self, performance at school and on the job, and relational dynamics. We address anxiety and depression, grief and loss, and moving well through transitions. We work with couples and families in conflict, separation and divorce, and with chronic or terminal illness. There may be multiple issues keeping you from putting your best self forward. We will explore together what underlies thoughts, feelings and behaviors that separate you from a more fulfilling life. We will develop a plan to reduce reactivity, strengthen your voice and improve interactions with others. Our work together will take advantage of strengths, and develop more effective coping skills so that you may gain or regain healthy connections and optimize your performance.
Each client, couple or family presents with particular challenges in life. Your concerns are unique. There is no ‘one size fits all’ treatment approach. We utilize a number of modalities in treatment, all integrated within an environment of care, compassion, and non-judgmental acceptance. Our concern for clients and love of our work keeps us motivated to continuously learn and stay in tune with cutting edge mental health clinical techniques. We will discuss and choose what best fits your situation and symptoms.
As skilled clinical social workers, we each provide personal consultation and offer counseling, psychotherapy or coaching tailored to meet your needs. We will be your ally in overcoming obstacles, exploring options and developing more successful coping skills, ultimately moving from stress and distress to success and fulfillment.
